Day 4 to Budapest
Another great ride to Budapest, the weather again was just perfect, so a change of plans .We will ride the long route 163 klm
Riding a short time on the highway we turn of onto some twisty back roads, the road needs some TLC as it is quite bumpy feels like we are back in NSW. The country side is very flat but it is good for the food bowl as many vegetables and wheat are grown in this area. Some villages have wind power generated as it is quite remote
After a quick regroup at a bus stop Rozle gives us directions into the main city of Budapestthe ones with the GPSs stay at the back the ones without stay behind him..Sounds good in theory but it did not quite work out, the traffic was very heavy and it started to rain.
We did not lose anybody but it was quite a task keeping everybody in sight.
Arriving at our Hotel Mediterran parking the bikes in the underground garage, getting our allocated rooms, a quick shower, a quick lunch in a nearby cafe. Rozle has organized a mini bus tour of the city.
It was a very comprehensive and very interesting tour; the local guide took us to all major places and explained the different activities that we could do on our rest day.
He explained that the city is divided in two by the Danube River, Buda on one side and Pest on the other. The oldest bridge is the Szechhenyi Chain Bridge was built in 1849, but was destroyed in the war and was rebuilt. There are nine bridges spanning the river
Our dinner was again very enjoyable, many laugh’s as we get to know our fellow travellers, Alan tried a liqueur that was recommended by the guide, it was bloody dreadful it had a red cross on the bottle and it was called Unicon it left a awful taste in the mouth, so we had to wash it down with some Hungarian dessert.
A taxi brought us back to our hotel in bed about 11pm,
Another wonderful day..
Rest day today, we are out to explore the city by foot
