Monday 16th April no 10 Rio
This wi fi is only for a minute at a time, photos will come when we have longer wifi time (and free)
After a swim in the hotel pool last night, and a nana nap just to rest our weary feet,We again set out for another walk about 6pm and to find a place to have a light meal.We have not see the rest of the group since leaving them at a souvenir shop yesterday afternoon.
Our first romantic dinner alone, we walked the promenade as a light cool wind blew on us it was lovely and cool after such a very hot day.vic and I stopped at a restaurant and had trout and aspagras with was delicious .
We then went to the waters edge and dipped our feet into the Atlantic Ocean took photos and got back to the hotel about 9pm.
Meeting up with the rest at breakfast we learned that Bruno and Nina found a nice Italian restaurant and they also had a romantic dinner, Erica found a Arab restaurant and sat by herself and had nice dinner. She had met up with a couple from Australia that had been mugged the night before, they have lost their passports money etc,so we are now more alert than before.
It rained all night but now 8 16am it has all cleared up and very very humid, our Jeep tour is still on .
We were picked up at 9 20am with the canopy on so we would not get wet, we maneuvered through the Rio traffic missing motorcyclists, and cars through the narrow streets as our first stop of the day was to see Christ the redeemer,it was drizzling rain and low cloud when we arrived for the lift to the top of the mountain. We gathered around and took photos of the statue that overlooks all of Rio in between cloud movements it was a fantastic sight, we then proceeded through the rain forrest and spotted some spider monkeys leaping through the trees ,it had stopped raining and the canopy was rolled up and we had a great view of the surrounds in the jungle.
Having lunch at the jockey club we then went to the botanical gardens ,where a beautiful display of orchids were on display, and huge palm trees that were over 40foot high we even spotted a gum tree, water lily leaves that could keep a 5klm baby afloat they were so big
From there we proceeded to Sugarloaf mountain were we embarked on a cable car to the top.The views were just spectacular from the top over a 350 deg view.We had a great day very interesting and again we are stuffed.
Returning to our hotel at 6pm we went to the beachfront and had a quick bite to eat,and again it started to sprinkle, just hope tomorrow is dry.
